For many, a career in camping begins with that one season, breaking away from the traditional 9-5, for some finer to experience something different, away from home. As part of National Careers Week, here are some personal stories from colleagues who are climbing the camping career ladder with Eurocamp and Al Fresco Holidays…
Sarah N, Area Manager
My camping career started as a work placement student completing ‘a year in industry’ for my university course… this was over 2 seasons to meet the criteria! Once I finished my university degree I returned to Eurocamp for one last summer…. Or so I thought! This was the summer where I met Ryan…13 years later we continue our seasons together with our 2 children living and working in a beautiful part of France… And the rest you could say is history!
Colleen, Recruitment Officer
I started with Al Fresco as an Overseas Rep in 2011 on Sanguli in Salou after a presentation at college whilst I completed my Travel & Tourism course. When I returned back to the UK I applied to work in Al Fresco Holidays Head Office as an Operations Assistant. 8 years later, I am currently a Recruitment Officer looking after the South of France, Spain & Portugal. After conducting hundreds of interviews & flight bookings I still love the diversity of the job & of course the chance to visit our great campsites. I have met some of my best friends (& partner) through camping, making that application I completed back in 2011 the best decision I have ever made!
Zoe, Overseas Performance Manager
It started off seeing an advert in the paper for Reps to work in Europe, I was working as a temp in an office in Manchester – so I thought why not, something different and probably more fun than my temping job! What started out as a fun summer back in the day turned into a career spanning more than 20 seasons. I loved it from the minute I started and never looked back.
Stacey, Area Manager
I decided to start in 2011 after I had been on holiday to a site called Camping La Siesta in Palafrugell, Spain the previous year. I had never been on any camping holidays before, in fact I had never even heard of Eurocamp or any Tour Operators like that. I loved my holiday so much I decided that I was going to apply for a Scottish Tour Operator and see if I could get a job working on a campsite. I thought I all sounded great working outdoors, in the sunshine and meeting lots of new people. Thank god I was successful and got the job. After a few seasons & various roles I decided to move to Eurocamp as there was more opportunity for progression. I did 3 years Site Manager* with Eurocamp and last year I became Area Manager for North Brittany which is one of my favourite places in France. This will be my 9th season and I am still loving it. Every year there are different challenges which I love, I get to meet and work with new people and not forgetting returning staff. If anyone out there is debating whether to apply, just do it, hopefully you won’t look back!!
